The 10-day Fall Thoroughbred meet opens today at Los Alamitos with a first post time of 2 p.m. Today's card features the running of the Beverly J Lewis stakes which will go as race 7 on the 8-race program.
Today's Picks:
Race 1: 4-6-2
#4 Surf N Ski has shown enough speed in previous efforts that should have him sitting in a good position early on. We might be able to get a good price on him given the low profile jockey and trainer combo.
Race 2: 4-9-6
#4 Relative Time has primarily faced tougher competition throughout his career and his effort two races ago over this surface was not all that bad considering he broke through the gate. This field lacks a strong punch so I think this might just be the spot to break his maiden.
Race 3: 7-9-5
#7 Unbridled Summer outran her odds last time out when finishing a good second in her debut at Del Mar when going off at odds of 16-1. Any kind of improvement should get her to the winner's circle.
Race 4: 4-10-6
#4 El Monterey has not been seen since February when finishing second at Santa Anita against a similar field. He's shown some talent in both of his starts and looks to have plenty of workouts in preparation for his return.
Race 5: 5-2-8
#5 Sky Forever finished a solid second against a repeat winner at Del Mar last time out and he now returns to a dirt surface. He's shown he can be on the lead or close from the back of the pack.That is a big plus.
Race 6: 9-7-2
#9 Carbon Beach improved from her first start to her second outing and faced a tougher level too. The drop in class and the potential to keep improving makes her the pick.
Race 7: 3-2-4
#3 Windy Forecast is already a stakes winner on dirt. If you cross out her turf and synthetic starts, you are left with a 2-for-3 record on the dirt.
Race 8: 8-10-7
#8 Brownie Finale was up close to the leaders in his debut at Del Mar before weakening late. I think he's going to flash some good early speed and will have a bit more stamina this time around.
